Baby baths and bath time.

If you are bathing a newborn child for the first time, the thought of the process can be daunting. But don’t worry help is at hand! Hospitals will usually show you the basics to bath your child safely using baby baths. The key thing to do before you do anything is plan a head, and being confident holding and bathing you child.

Firstly you need to decide on the best place to bath you baby using your baby bath. We recommend bathing your new born in the warmest room in the house, not necessarily in the bathroom. You need to choose an area which will roomy enough to be enable you to lift your child in and out of the baby bath easily. Some parents will place baby baths within a normal bath to make things easier. Now, this might sound like a good idea and the best method, but it can be difficult to bath your newborn within a baby bath bent over and leaning into a normal bath.

Secondly make sure you have everything you need to bath your child and have everything at hand, and make sure they are easy to reach. As you will have one hand full constantly on your child so make sure you keep all bathing items close to you.

If your bathing a slightly older child chances are he or she does not like bath time. Your child may have out grown a regular sized baby baths, and will start to use an adult sized bath. To help make your older child enjoy bath time we have a great selection of baby baths toys including rubber ducks!

Below we have put together a little list of items to have to hand when washing and using baby baths:

Cotton wool, which you can make wet to wash your childs face. Newborns skin is a lot softer than normal skin and a normal flannel may be to rough on your childs skin.

Two towels, babies will be babies and accidents are will happen so keep to towels just in case your newborn decides to go at the wrong time. If you have a towel rail or an airing cuboard place the towels on the rail or in the cuboard half an hour or before bathing your child, as this will make the baby help the child dry off and feel warmer quicker.

A jug of warn water to help wash your babies head and hair. It also helps to speed up the process of bathing your child.

Spare nappies make sure you have a nappy ready to put your child in after its bath.

Baby bath soap. There are a number of good baby bathing products available in all good supermarkets and chemist.

Baby shampoo we would recommend using “No more tears” available from Johnsons.
